Prostate Exam
I went to my local urologist for a routine visit and lucky me, I got to receive a prostate exam. The blood test showed that my PSA levels were 4.4 and they like to have them less than 4. The Dr wanted me to have the test rerun a few days later and they showed 4.2 so he wanted me to get a biopsy. I elected to see a urologist at the U of C to keep everything in house before I made the decision to have a biopsy. The blood test was run and the PSA level was 4.3. When I asked the Dr his opinion about a biopsy, he stated that sometimes men’s PSA levels can vary and some are higher than 4 but he wanted to speak with my oncologist to see what my prognosis is before he put me through the discomfort of a biopsy. This is the first time that I was ever upset by the way a Dr treated me at U of C. He basically told me if I am not going to be around in five years, why go through a biopsy. I spoke with my oncologist and told him I was very upset by that visit so we are going to monitor the levels periodically and see if anything changes.
