Breathe IN .... Now Bloooooowwwww
Met with the pulmonary function team at University of Chicago to determine my lung capacity and how I would function with my upper left lobe of my lung removed. The test was not difficult. It consisted of blowing into a tube numerous times until I had no wind left in my lungs. The only bad part about the test was at the end when I had to blow into the machine and take a deep breathe approximately 3 times fast and I felt very light headed like I was going to pass out from hyperventilating. That feeling went away after about 15 seconds though. I would like to mention that my lungs were never subjected to smoking and I was in decent shape. I had been running a few 5k races that Spring so my lung capacity was on the high side of average. My results came back that I was a good candidate for the removal of the mass.
