PET Scan
Today I went in for my second PET Scan. The Dr’s wanted to have a base and verify that there was no other cancer cells spreading throughout my body. I feel good that everything is going to be alright but there is always that little bit of worry that you try to put out of your head. The findings were as follow:
PET WHOLE BODY NSC LUNG DX - Details
Study Result
Narrative
PET WB NSC LUNG DX, 11/2/2016 12:19 PM
CLINICAL INFORMATION: Lung cancer staging.
RADIOPHARMACEUTICAL: 12.0 mCi F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG).
BLOOD GLUCOSE (FASTING): 103 mg/dL.
TECHNIQUE: After administration of the radiotracer and an uptake delay of 110 minutes,
nonenhanced CT images were obtained for attenuation correction and for fusion with the PET
emission images. (The nonenhanced CT images were obtained solely for purposes of
completing the PET scan, are not of diagnostic quality and are thus not interpreted or
used to diagnose disease independently of the PET images.) A series of overlapping PET
emission images was then obtained from the skull base to the proximal thighs. The average
SUV of the normal liver was 2.3 for this exam.
COMPARISON: Outside PET/CT from 8/12/2016.
FINDINGS: Today's CT portion grossly demonstrates a left upper lobe mass measuring
approximately 3.0 x 3.5 cm. Calcified granulomas are seen in the right lung base and
mediastinum.
Today's PET examination demonstrates a medium-sized markedly hypermetabolic left upper
lobe mass, compatible with history of lung cancer. It has increased slightly in size and
metabolic activity from prior (SUV max = 14.5 previously, = 18.6 currently).
A curvilinear focus of moderate activity is seen in the left anterolateral chest wall just
below this level at the third/fourth rib interspace (SUV max = 6.1). This is new from
prior and presumably represents interval instrumentation rather than metastatic tumor to
the chest wall.
No additional suspicious FDG avid lesion identified. Several punctate hypermetabolic lymph
nodes within the neck bilaterally are stable and most likely inflammatory.
IMPRESSION:
1. Markedly hypermetabolic left upper lobe mass, compatible with lung cancer, slightly
progressed in size and activity from prior.
2. No definitive FDG avid metastatic disease. New curvilinear left chest wall activity
as described above is presumably inflammation from recent instrumentation rather than
tumor although clinical correlation is requested.
